Auger Falls, located on the West Branch of the Sacandaga River, is located in Griffin, NY. This is a short drive outside of Wells, NY.
At 40 ft. high, the main waterfall is a sight to see, even during the summer when the water is much lower. With over 100 ft of waterfalls in this short stretch of river there are plenty of well maintained trails to visit all.
The trail systems are not very well-marked. They have been well-traveled which makes them easy to follow, but there are some trails that look very similar to each other, so stay aware or you could be walking in circles for quite some time.
The main parking area is located just off the road, about 1.7 miles north of Rt. 8 on State Rt. 30. Pulling into the lot, which will be located on your right, you will notice a moderately maintained dirt lot/road.
Parking at the beginning of the lot allows you to hike many of the trail heads located nearby as well as one of the main trail heads located at th end of the small jeep path you passed on your right as you pulled into the drive.
Following the lot/road back to its end to will have the opportunity to travel down river to gain views of the falls from the top first. Almost all of these trails reconnect back to the main lot at some point.
This is a great area with miles of hiking and many other waterfalls near by. It can be accessible for almost anyone, given the time of year visited.
