Visiting Glen Falls – On the Road for New York Waterfalls!

Glen Falls

By Donna McCabe (Bookgirl911 on Instagram)

Nestled within the village of Williamsville you’ll find Glen Falls tumbling down as part of Ellicott Creek just after it passes below Main Street.  Glen Park, the falls namesake, is a quiet village park with paved paths meandering around interconnected ponds.  The creek used to serve as a power source for both a grist mill and a sawmill.   During the 1940’s & 1950’s, the park was also home to an amusement park.  Now though, you’ll find local residents walking along the paths or sitting on one of the numerous benches enjoying the quiet scenery.

Having worked in the general area of the park and driven by it too many times to count, for some reason stopping by for a visit just never happened.  That changed one day last Fall when I brought my camera & tripod with me so I could visit after work.  The seasonal colors were out and the water was flowing beautifully so my timing was perfect.  The sun was setting too quickly for my taste, but I’ll definitely be returning since there is quite a lot to enjoy here whether you stay on the paths or go off and see where your explorations will lead.

This park is about 10 acres and leads into nearby Amherst State Park.  This beauty is worth a stop when you’re in the Western New York area.  Niagara Falls is about 30 minutes to the west, Akron Falls is roughly 30 minutes to the east, and the drive to Letchworth State Park will take approximately 90 minutes.  Perfect for your very own western New York waterfall road trip!
