Agawamuck Falls: A product of industry
The High Falls Conservation area in Philmont, NY holds two natural waterfalls as well as one that forms on an old dam. The area is named after the tallest waterfall in Columbia County, High Falls, which is the star attraction. The second waterfall that stands at approximately 70 feet is Agawamuck Falls.
Agawamuck Falls forms on an unnamed waterway approximately 100 yards away from High Falls. This waterway once supplied factories along the creek as it was diverted from Agawamuck Creek.
As the water flows down the twisting falls, the sprawling base becomes split by a tiny “island” where a tree has grown to maturity. This is also where it joins the Agawamuck Creek.
This waterfall can be seen if you take the trail down to the creek and head toward the base of High Falls.
