buttermilk-falls-state-park

Home of several waterfalls and cascades!

With dozens of falls named Buttermilk Falls located throughout New York State, this particular waterfall is the only one to have a park named for it. While there are several waterfalls inside the park, the main attraction can be viewed as you pull into the main parking area located at the lower portion of the park. There is a small state park fee associated with parking here, but it’s well worth the price!

If you enjoy creek walking, wading and swimming, this area is for you. Not only is it OK to swim in the creek, but there is a man-made dam just below the waterfall, creating a pool for the park’s summertime guests. Dogs are allowed on the trails as well, which makes this spot attractive for almost everyone.

The upper portion of the park has it’s own parking areas and numerous trail heads to hike. If visiting for the the day, try to plan sometime after wet weather so you get to witness the optimal flow of the stream. All other times the park is very beautiful, but the water can get fairly low during the summer.
