Falls of Carillon – Ticonderoga

The LaChute River is a two-mile waterway in Ticonderoga that connects Lake George to Lake Champlain.

The LaChute drops a total of 230 feet as it flows over several falls. One such waterfall is The Falls of Carillon (French; pronounced carry-on). Ticonderoga, formerly known as Carillon, is also home to Fort Ticonderoga; formerly known as Fort Carillon. Hence, the name of the falls. LaChute Falls is another name for this waterfall.

This waterfall, with the remnants of a dam near its top, stands at an estimated 25-35 feet in height as it spans the river next to Bicentennial Park. There are also four other waterfalls along the LaChute that all played a role in the early industrial life of the town as the power of water was harnessed to power mills and factories. Despite the large role mills played, only one small building remains to date.

Visitors can also follow a river walk, containing a number of historical markers, and learn of historical events that took place in the area.
