Pixley Falls

Western and Eastern NY All-Outdoors Atlas & Field Guide, 2008
By Bobbieswaterfalls

As summer time is upon us, so many folks looking for trails and waterfalls. I have been working on doing updates to reflect changes in access to waterfalls and trails. As most folks know by now, back in the day, most of my first resources were paper maps of all sorts. This brings me back to the collection of the Western New York All-Outdoors Atlas & Field Guide, 2008, and the Eastern New York All-Outdoors Atlas & Field Guide, 2008. There is a newer updated spiral bound set dated September 1, 2016 and October 1, 2016, however the list of waterfalls in both editions have not changed. What has changed is access to the locations.

Before you set out in your travels, always research where you are going and the access. Although maps have waterfalls listed on, that does not mean it is open to the public! What may have been accessible years ago, is not always the same today or even tomorrow. Keeping up with land access has become quite a job. Both here on Dig the Falls, and Bobbieswaterfalls. We try to stay on top. We appreciate your help and ongoing feedback on location statuses.

In the next several “Waterfall Wednesday’s Clickety Clicks“, I will be covering the waterfall locations in this particular map set. These maps have very good detailed information. I honestly would say and recommend this as a good resource in addition to your other resources you may use.

Research before you travel.
Be prepared for land status changes.
Be prepared for trail conditions.
Have a backup plan.
